Ronin
On this week’s episode of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John watched Ronin, John Frankenheimer’s 1998 action masterpiece starring Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Natascha McElhone, Stellan Skarsgard, Sean Bean and Jonathan Pryce, among many others. In Ronin, De Niro plays “Sam,” a CIA agent working undercover as an ex-CIA turned mercenary. He joins with a group of mercenaries to assist an IRA operation. When that operation goes sideways, Sam must work with the few people he trusts to accomplish his mission and get out alive.
In the episode, we gush over the film — which is a personal favorite for us both — and talk about the film as a direct metaphor for that particular moment in geopolitical history.
Episodes come out roughly every two weeks, so join us next time for Shot Through the Heart, a television movie about two childhood friends who end up on opposing sides in the civil war in Sarajevo. You can find it to watch on YouTube.
